Roller Forming for Cylindrical Assemblies

Like orbital and radial forming, roller forming is a non-impact process for cold-forming metal. The Roller Forming Process Forms a Curl or Lip on the Edge or Rim of a Hollow, Cylindrical Part.

ROLLER FORMING PRESSES - ASSEMBLY PRESS BY ROLLING

The forming process is achieved by molded rollers which are mounted on a rotating spindle and unroll themselves on the part to be formed.

This deformation allows tight angles and good surface/lip seating – thus resulting in good sealing qualities.

Roller Forming is ideally used for applications when thin material walls and large diameters are present. When processed with a riveting peen, such pieces tend to bulge or collapse.

For each specific application, Pressmach construct an individual rolling head. Work pieces define the design and execution of the roller head such as dimensions, number of rollers and rotation speed.

ROLLER FORMING UNITS

Roller Forming is ideally used for applications when thin material walls and large diameters are present. When processed with a riveting peen, such pieces tend to bulge or collapse. In combination with the Process Controller this solution guarantees an exact and high-quality forming process which can be documented and proofed by means of the recorded process data.

For each application, a customer specific rolling head and the correspondent machine are designed, to provide the best solution for your individual requirements. Without column and without working table, machine size based on needed torque and speed for optimal operation, based on riveting units RNE/ENE, electric drive, motor, eventually with gear box, specified to the optimal speed, with pneumatic or hydraulic unit, with proximity switch for spindle home position, with sensoring HPP (path & pressure).

Static Roller Forming

Roller forming is a non-impact process using a spinning roller head, with two or more rollers, to apply a symmetrical downward force to form a part. Static roller forming is often used to form an aesthetically pleasing lip around a cylindrical part. The non-impact nature combined with precision and accuracy makes it possible to form delicate and brittle materials. Static roller heads provide consistency and efficiency to your forming process.

Flaring

Hardened rollers on a spinning roller head are advanced in a vertical direction to apply a symmetrical downward force to a cylindrical material to flare it outward.

Lip Forming / Crimping

To form or crimp a cylindrical material inward, hardened rollers on a spinning roller head can advance in a vertical direction to apply a symmetrical downward force.

Articulating Roller Forming

Articulating roller forming is used when forming a groove in a part or when there are obstructions to clear in order to form a lip. The articulating roller heads come in from the side to create the formed area. The 360-degree contact means consistent action for the entire time the part is being formed. These roller heads can deliver forming forces up to 3 Ton.
